Interaction-Transfer-Transaction

Elevator

Interaction is the least formal way for two units of an organization to work together, followed by transfers, and finally the most formal method of transactions

Concerns

Organizations tend to mix these three types of working together. This causes unpredictable results and can breakdown trust in the organization.

Practices

These represent the different type of contracts that occur within the firm.  The easiest is interaction, which often is the defining steps to workflows and processes.  At a deeper level of commitment is transferring knowledge and items across the firm.  Supply chains and value chains will often reflect these transfers.  Transactions are the strictest form of contract and will often have written rules and procedures.
